The Election Commissioners are appointed by the State Election Commission upon the recommendation of the local representative (TN Senator or Representative) and the local parties. The Election Commissioners, in turn, appoint the local Administrator of Elections.

The Election Commission Office serves the voting public and candidates in all things pertaining to an election: Local, State and Federal. The Election Commission Office is responsible for filing and maintaining all voter registration records for Hamblen County and Morristown.

January 5, 2018 – First day to pick up petitions for the County General/State Primary (election includes following offices: School Board Districts 1 & 2, 5 & 6, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, United State Senate, United State House of Representatives, Governor, Tennessee State Senator 1st District, Tennessee House of Representatives 10th District, Republican and Democratic State Executive Committeeman and Committeewoman 1st District)
April 5, 2018, 12:00 NOON – Qualifying deadline for candidate petitions
April 12, 2018, 12:00 NOON – Withdrawal deadline for candidates wishing to withdraw their name from the State Primary
May 4, 2018 – First day to request an absentee ballot for the County General/State Primary
June 13, 2018, 12:00 NOON – Certification of write in candidacy must be filed with the Election Commission Office
July 3, 2018 – Last day to register to vote before the August 2, 2018 County General/State Primary
July 13, 2018 – Early Voting Begins
July 26, 2018 – Last day to request an absentee ballot of the County General/State Primary
July 28, 2018 – Early Voting Ends
August 2, 2018 – Election Day

August 8, 2018 – First day to request an absentee ballot for the State General Election
September 17, 2018, 12:00 Noon – Certification of write in candidacy must be filed with the Election Commission Office
October 9, 2018 – Last day to register to vote before the November 6, 2018 General Election
October 17, 2018 – Early Voting Begins
October 30, 2018 – Last day to request an absentee ballot for the State General Election
November 1, 2018 – Early Voting Ends
November 6, 2018 – Election Day
